Dear Davey
Ahh ..moving and starting over is so much fun and to add to the fun you now have two stressed out dogs with diarrhea.
We have few suggestions to help with the problem. You can do pepto bismo or Imodium to help stop the diarrhea.
The dosing for Imodium is 1/4 tablet for dogs under 10#, 1/2 tablet for dogs 10-30#, 3/4 tablet for dogs 30-50# and for dog’s over 50# give one adult size tablet every 24 hours. For Pepto bismo the dosing for dog’s under 10# is 1 to 2 teaspoons and for medium size dog’s give one tablespoon and for large dogs over 50# give 2 tablespoons every 12 hours.
You can also do a bland diet with a few tablespoons of plain canned pumpkin ( no pumkin pie mix please) on the top of the bland diet to help firm up the stools. The bland diet consists of cooked white rice with boneless and skinless chicken breast mixed in. You will want to feed small frequent meals and make sure your dog is drinking plenty of water . You can go the natural treatment way and try plain yogurt or benebac, the natural way takes a little longer to work and my experience, when your dog has diarrhea you want it stopped as soon as possible.
If you have diarrhea problems for more than 3 day’s with out seeing any improvement, you should visit your veterinarian and take a fresh stool sample to make sure you don’t have any thing more serious going on other than stress. After 3 days it is time to go for the heavy duty prescription medications to save your sanity, so you also don’t get stress diarrhea.
We wish you the best of luck in you new home town.
