Dear Brew

My dog Tank get into the trash can when we leave for work, we are tired of picking up trash after getting home from a long day of work!! any suggestion to help us.

Thank you

Dear Ashley and Tank

 Dear  Ashley and Tank

Let’s see if we can put a stop to your trash can bandit. You did not say what kind of dog Tank is, but if he is small to medium size, you can put the trash can on the counter or lock it in another room when you leave or get a  sturdy metal step on trash can with tight sealing metal lid.

Our other suggestions are more pro-active and involves behaviour modification training. To get him to stop even trying to raid the trash can, you will need to pick up some old fashion mouse trap’s (about 3 or 4 will do) then you will want to place a flat piece of cardboard on top of the trash and carefully set and place the mouse traps on  the cardboard on the top of the trash can. I can guarantee you that after he get’s his nose snapped at a few time’s, he will stop trying to raiding the trash can. This also works for large dog’s that pull food down off the counter and eat it. My daughter boxer  (Bruce) once grabbed my husband birthday cake off the counter and ate half of it, needless to say my husband was not very happy and Bruce was in the dog house for the rest of the day.

Please make sure you always throw your chicken, pork and steak bone into the garbage can outside where your dog’s can not possible get to them. Eating these kind of bones can cause you a costly surgery or even death in your dog as they can splinter and puncture the stomach and intestinal track.  So it always better to be safe than sorry with bone’s and even the best train dog will have a hard time passing up bones.

Have a question for Dear Brew that you would like answered here at today.com? then send your questions to us as a comment or a ping and we answer it for you. I was sent an email saying that I can no longer post our email address in our blog for our reader’s to email their question’s to ??

Father day is fast approaching.. what are you getting your dad for fathers day? ( can you blame a girl for trying to make a extra buck or two here and there?)
